TEACHERS

The patient care providers of Midlands Family Medicine serve as faculty and teaching staff for a variety of future medical professionals. In this role, we continue to insure future health care professionals are well educated in caring for the needs of individual families. We maintain an active teaching role for physicians-in-training, medical students, nurse-practitioner students, and nursing students.

Our primary teaching role is serving as host of the University of Nebraska Rural Family Practice Residency Training Program. Family practice resident physicians are taught in our office, at the hospital, and at several other specialty physician offices in North Platte and the surrounding area. These young doctors have completed medical school and are spending two years in the rural residency training program, specializing in rural family medicine. This is in addition to the year they spent in family practice residency in Omaha.

We also maintain a strong relationship with the University of Nebraska Medical School and Creighton University Medical School by providing clerkship opportunities for junior and senior medical students as well as third-year residents. Nurse Practitioner students from UNMC, Creighton, and Clarkson College also work with our doctors to master their family practice skills.

Nursing students periodically spend time with our nursing staff to learn some of the unique aspects of caring for family practice patient needs in a clinic setting.
